High Hopes For 3D Television

Financial analysts have warned that the 3D market may not grow rapidly in 2010 as many consumers are still hesitant to adopt the 3D technology at home due to the lack of content available, the heavy price tag and the need for special glasses. However TV manufacturers have high hopes for 3D TVs.

3D on TV Technology

The manufacturers of consumer electronic want to boost their sales and profitability in the highly competitive flat screen TV market. Japanese companies like Sony and Panasonic are especially keen on 3D TVs to cover their losses in televisions last year.

Sony plans to launch its 3D TVs in June and targets to sell 2.5 million units up to march 2011. Panasonic aims to sell 1 million units while Samsung expects a sale of 2 million 3D TV sets in 2010. According to market research the global shipments of 3D TVs are expected to touch 4.2 million this year and more than triple to 12.9 million in 2011.  The technology needed to manufacture 3D TV sets is similar to that of the LCD TVs. Samsung and LG can excel in the 3D TV market as they have built up a solid reputation for their brand and they manufacture chips and panels required for making 3D TV sets.
